Crypto.com Review 2026: Staking, Yield and the Crypto Card Explained Simply

Crypto.com review: staking rewards of 2–11% and card cashback of 0–4.5%

Crypto.com is one of the biggest crypto apps in the world. Most people know it for buying Bitcoin, but it can do three more interesting things with your money: stake your coins, earn interest on them, and let you spend them with a card that pays you back.

These features sound complicated, so in this review we use the Feynman technique: we explain each one so simply that a 12-year-old could follow it, use everyday comparisons, and then show the real numbers. If you can explain it back in one sentence at the end of each section, you understand it.

Our verdict
Crypto.com is a polished all-in-one crypto app with an EU MiCA licence, staking on dozens of coins and a card that pays up to 4.5% back. But the best rewards require you to lock up or subscribe for a lot of money, rewards are paid in its own token CRO, and staking and Earn are not protected like a bank account. Great for crypto users who will actually use the card; less exciting for small or casual users.

Crypto.com in one sentence

Crypto.com is an app where you can buy crypto, let it work for you through staking or Earn, and spend it with a card that gives part of your spending back in CRO.

Now let's take each part apart.

Part 1: Staking, explained simply

The simple version

Imagine a village where a group of trusted people check every payment so nobody cheats. To become a checker, you must put down a deposit. If you do your job honestly, the village pays you a small reward. If you cheat, you lose part of your deposit.

That's staking. Blockchains like Ethereum, Solana and Cardano are kept safe by "validators" who lock up coins as a deposit. In return, they earn new coins as a reward.

Running a validator yourself is technical (on Ethereum you would need 32 ETH). Crypto.com does the technical part for you: you press "stake", and it locks your coins with validators and passes the rewards on to you, minus its fee.

What you can earn

Bar chart of Crypto.com estimated staking rewards in October 2026: CRO 11.44%, SOL 4.38%, TIA 4.16%, DOT 3.48%, ADA 2.95%, ETH 2.23%
Estimated yearly staking rewards on Crypto.com in the EEA, October 2026

These are Crypto.com's own estimates for EEA users in October 2026, before its fees. Rewards are paid in the same coin you stake.

Example: You stake 1 ETH at about 2.2% a year. After a year you have about 1.022 ETH. Whether that's worth more or less in euros depends on the price of ETH. If ETH falls 30%, your 2.2% reward doesn't save you.

The catches

  • Unbonding time. When you unstake, many networks make you wait before your coins are free again. The waiting time depends on the blockchain.
  • Slashing. If a validator misbehaves, the network can take part of the stake as a penalty.
  • Price risk. The reward is small compared with how much crypto prices move.
  • Not covered by MiCA. Crypto.com itself says staking is not regulated under the EU's MiCA rules.

Explain it back: Staking means lending your coins to help secure a blockchain, and you get paid a small reward in the same coin for it.

Part 2: Crypto Earn (yield), explained simply

The simple version

Staking pays you for helping a blockchain. Crypto Earn pays you for handing your crypto to Crypto.com for a while. It's a bit like a savings account at a bank: you leave your money there, they use it, and you get interest. The big difference is that there's no deposit guarantee. If something went wrong at Crypto.com, your crypto is not protected like the €100,000 a bank account is.

How it works

  • Choose a coin and a term: flexible (take it out any time), 1 month or 3 months.
  • Fixed terms usually pay more than flexible.
  • Rewards are calculated daily and paid every 7 days, in the same coin.
  • Minimums apply, for example 0.005 BTC, 0.15 ETH, 250 USDC, 1 SOL or 500 CRO.

The rule most people miss

On fixed terms, Crypto.com pays the full rate only on the first $3,000. The next $27,000 earns half the rate, and anything above that earns even less. So Earn is best for smaller amounts. Putting €50,000 in won't earn 10 times as much as €5,000.

Crypto.com doesn't publish fixed rates on its website. You see your rate in the app, and it depends on the coin, the term and your card tier. Earn is not available to residents of Malta.

Flexible: any time. Fixed: at the end of the term

Explain it back: Earn means lending your crypto to Crypto.com for interest, like a savings account but without a guarantee, and only the first $3,000 earns the full rate on fixed terms.

Part 3: The Crypto.com card, explained simply

The simple version

The Crypto.com card is a prepaid card. You load it with euros, either from your bank account or by selling some crypto in the app, and then pay anywhere cards are accepted. Every time you pay, Crypto.com gives you back a small percentage in CRO, its own cryptocurrency.

Think of it as a supermarket loyalty card that pays you in a coin whose price goes up and down.

Plus

Pro

The rule of thumb: a subscription only pays off if your cashback is bigger than its price.

  • Plus pays off from about €270 a month of spending.
  • Pro needs about €1,000 a month. Because the cashback stops after $1,500, there's little room above that.

Subscription or lock-up?

Instead of paying monthly, you can lock CRO for 12 months. While it's locked you may also earn staking rewards on it (on Pro up to 3.6% a year, on Private up to 6%). But there's a big catch: if CRO's price falls, you lose money on the locked amount.

Example: You lock €4,500 of CRO for Pro. If CRO falls 40% that year, your lock is worth €2,700. You've lost €1,800, far more than the maximum Pro cashback of about $450 a year. If CRO rises, you win. A lock-up is a bet on CRO.

Fees to know

  • Foreign currency: 0.2% inside the EU/UK on Basic. Outside the EU/UK, 2% on Basic. Plus and Pro pay no fee up to €400 or €800 a month, then 2%.
  • ATM: free up to your tier's monthly allowance, then 2%.
  • Topping up with a debit or credit card costs 1%.
  • Physical card: €4.99 on Basic.
  • Inactivity: €6 a month after 12 months without use.

Explain it back: The card is a prepaid card that gives back up to 4.5% in CRO, but only the paid tiers give cashback, and they only pay off if you spend enough.

Is Crypto.com safe?

  • Licensed in the EU. Crypto.com's Maltese company Foris DAX MT Ltd holds a licence under MiCA, the EU's crypto rules. The card is issued by Foris MT Ltd, an e-money institution supervised in Malta.
  • Security certificates. It shows certifications such as SOC and ISO 27701 and publishes proof of its reserves.
  • But it's custodial. Crypto.com holds your coins for you. As crypto fans say: "not your keys, not your coins". For large long-term amounts, a hardware wallet is safer.
  • No deposit guarantee. Crypto in the app, staking and Earn are not covered by the €100,000 bank guarantee.
  • Conditions change often. Cashback rates, lock-up rates and fees were changed several times in 2025 and 2026. Check the app before you commit.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Everything in one app: buy, stake, earn and spend
  • EU MiCA licence
  • Staking on dozens of coins with no technical setup
  • Card cashback up to 4.5%, plus Spotify and Netflix rebates on higher tiers
  • Plus tier pays off from moderate spending

Cons

  • Basic card pays 0% cashback
  • Best rewards need large CRO lock-ups, which carry price risk
  • Cashback is paid in CRO, not euros
  • Earn's full rate only applies to the first $3,000 on fixed terms
  • No deposit guarantee, and conditions change often

Who is Crypto.com for?

Crypto.com suits you if you:

  • already own crypto and want it to earn something while you hold it
  • spend at least €300–€1,000 a month by card and want cashback
  • are happy to receive rewards in CRO

It's not ideal if you only want to buy a little Bitcoin and hold it (a simple app or a hardware wallet does that), or if you don't want any exposure to CRO. And remember: crypto should be a small part of your portfolio. The base should be things like ETFs. Not sure where to start? Read Should I start investing?

Frequently asked questions

Is Crypto.com staking safe?

Staking itself is a normal part of how blockchains work, but you take price risk, may have to wait to unstake, and rely on Crypto.com as the middleman. Staking isn't regulated under MiCA.

What's the difference between staking and Crypto Earn?

Staking rewards come from the blockchain for helping secure it. Earn rewards come from Crypto.com for letting it use your crypto.

Is the Crypto.com card free?

Yes, the Basic card has no monthly fee, but it pays no cashback. Cashback starts with Plus at €3.99 a month.

Is the cashback paid in euros?

No, it's paid in CRO. You can keep it or sell it, but its value goes up and down with CRO's price.

Final verdict

Explained simply, Crypto.com gives you three ways to make your crypto work: staking (rewards from the blockchain), Earn (interest from Crypto.com) and the card (cashback when you spend). All three work well, and the app is one of the most complete on the market, with an EU licence behind it.

The trade-off is that the best rewards are paid in CRO and the biggest perks need you to lock a lot of it. Our view: use staking for coins you plan to hold anyway, keep Earn amounts small, and choose the Plus card if you spend more than about €270 a month. Avoid big CRO lock-ups unless you truly want to bet on CRO.
